Awarded on February 19th

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the nominations for this year's BAFTA Awards on Thursday (19 January). A German film production has great chances at the awards ceremony on February 19: With a total of 14 nominations, the Netflix film 'Nothing New in the West' tops the list - only 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon' from 2001 had been nominated that often before. Among other things, Netflix's anti-war film has prospects of winning the categories 'Best Film', 'Director' (Edward Berger) and 'Supporting Actor' (Albrecht Schuch).

'The Banshees of Insherin' and 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' with ten nominations

Also at the forefront are the tragic comedy The Banshees of Inisherin and the sci-fi adventure Everything Everywhere All At Once, both of which are nominated in ten categories each, including Best Picture.

With nominations in nine categories - including 'Best Film' and 'Lead Actor' (Austin Butler) - the biopic 'Elvis' follows. Another nominee for Best Picture is the musical drama Tár, starring Cate Blanchett, who is also in the running for Lead Actress.

14 performers first time BAFTA nominees

A total of 45 films are on the list of nominations this year. Among the 24 nominated performers in the performance categories are a total of 14 who are nominated for a BAFTA for the first time: Among others Ana de Armas (34) for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) in 'Blonde', Angela Bassett ('Black Panther: Wakanda Forever'), Austin Butler ('Elvis'), Colin Farrell ('The Banshees of Inisherin'), Brendan Fraser ('The Whale'), Paul Mescal ('Aftersun') and Ke Huy Quan ('Everything Everywhere All At Once').
