A planned collaboration between Britney Spears and Beyoncé has been cancelled.

The 41-year-old pop singer was reportedly set to team up with superstar Beyoncé, also 41, for a music video but the project has now fallen through. Several insiders are said to have confirmed to PageSix that while plans were in place, 'the collaboration ultimately didn't materialize'.

The '... Baby One More Time' hitmaker last teamed up with the 'Break My Soul' singer for a Pepsi commercial in 2001, which also involved fellow singer Pink. The trio then covered the Queen classic 'We Will Rock You' for the soft drink company and last year Beyoncé admitted she would love to work with Britney again. She said: 'Who wouldn't want to collaborate with the princess of pop? I love Britney, she's so sweet!'

Last year, Britney, who regained control of her financial, professional and personal affairs in 2021 after being locked away in family-supervised guardianship for 13 years, returned to music with music legend Sir Elton John with 'Hold Me Closer' chart back. Elton's husband later revealed he hopes the duet would give the pop princess the 'courage' to make a full-time comeback. David Furnish said: 'She was pretty specific about what she liked, what she wanted and how she wanted it to sound. And she made terrific comments. She's in control and embracing her destiny, which is exactly what you want. Elton's hope is that now she gets the courage to delve more into music.'
