THEY were also marked by grief: Duchess Kate (40) and Duchess Meghan (41), the supposedly strong women , at the side of their husbands, who are their support after the death of their grandmother Queen Elizabeth. Her granddaughters-in-law themselves paid tribute to the Queen - by both wearing jewelry inherited from Elizabeth herself. What Kate's brooch stands for - in the video.

In the live ticker you can read everything about the death of the Queen and how it will continue.

Meaningful pieces of jewelry are reminiscent of Queen

At the Entry into Westminster Hall Kate and Meghan arrived dressed all in black alongside their husbands. But they carried the memories of their grandmother-in-law very close to them. It is the jewelry that Queen Elizabeth once wore: a brooch – and pearl earrings adorned the ears of the two duchesses.

The earrings Meghan wore were a gift to her from Elizabeth, given to her shortly after her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018. In the much-discussed interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan spoke about the Queen's gift and how much it meant to her.

And Kate's earrings are also meaningful. The Princess of Wales paid tribute to her mother-in-law, Princess Diana, by wearing her earrings for the Queen's procession. The drop-shaped earrings by jewelery label Collingwood were given to Diana shortly before her marriage to Prince Charles in 1981. Now they are in the valuable possession of their (almost) daughter-in-law.

But the Queen also paid tribute to Kate – in the form of another piece of jewelry. You can see that in the video!
