Mariah Carey sends her regards

Slowly but surely, the Y2K hype is bringing back all the trends from the 2000s that we thought would never come back. Butterflies are making a big comeback on tops, bags, swimwear and shoes.

In 2000, Mariah Carey (53) caused a sensation with a glittering butterfly top - and now everyone wants to wear this top again. A new fashion trend has emerged around the colourful, fluttering insect: Butterfly Aesthetics calls Pinterest the butterfly style.

Why is the butterfly so fascinating as a symbol?

The insect is known for its miraculous transformation from an inconspicuous caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. In ancient Greece or in ancient Egypt, the butterfly was interpreted as a symbol for the soul and its immortality. Today the butterfly stands for resurrection, transformation, beauty. And in this context it is often done as a tattoo.

These celebs and designers love butterflies

The butterfly effect is circulating: numerous celebrities show their enthusiasm for the butterfly cult on Instagram. Bella Hadid (25), for example, added the butterfly emoji directly after her name to the profile description. Vanessa Hudgens (33), on the other hand, insisted on visiting the Coachella Festival 2022 in a Mariah Carey memory look. In a turquoise butterfly top, she heralded the 'Butterfly Season' on Instagram. According to a report by the online portal 'Page Six', singer Dua Lipa (27) and 'Riverdale' star Vanessa Morgan (30) are also big fans of the revealing top from the 2000s.

The Italian fashion label Blumarine provides even more butterflies in the stomach. Chief designer Nicola Brognano - born in 1990 - openly shows his passion for Y2K designs. Butterflies adorn his designs for swimwear, shoes, dresses and jeans. The flagship of the spring and summer collection 2022 was, how could it be otherwise, a butterfly top designed by him.
