The music world mourns the loss of eight-time Grammy winner Jeff Beck (1944-2023). Shortly before his death on Tuesday (January 10), the rock musician is said to have received a visit from some close friends and colleagues on his deathbed. Among them is Hollywood star Johnny Depp (59), who is said to be 'devastated' after the death of his friend, according to a source from 'People' magazine.
'The two had a very close friendship, they were extremely close, and became even closer friends last summer while touring together,' the source said. “The illness came very suddenly and in the past few weeks things have gone downhill unexpectedly quickly. Johnny is still processing the news.” Beck's family announced on Wednesday evening (January 11) that the British guitarist had died the day before after “suddenly” contracting bacterial meningitis.
In July 2022, Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck released their collaborative album titled 18 and an official music video for the single This Is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr. In the summer, the duo also had a few performances together, including in several German cities. Depp spoke of an 'extraordinary honor to play and write music with Jeff' as part of his album release. He is 'one of the real big ones' and Depp is happy to call him my brother'. Johnny Depp has yet to comment publicly on Jeff Beck's death.
