The 48-year-old actress is best known for her role as Rebecca Welton on the hit comedy-drama show 'Ted Lasso.' Before she rose to worldwide fame with the US TV series, she was also seen in theatrical productions of 'The Wizard of Oz', 'Kiss Me Kate' and 'Into the Woods'. Now she's going back to her roots as she leads the annual ceremony honoring the best West End theater at London's Royal Albert Hall on April.
In a statement, Claire Walker and Hannah Essex, Co-CEOs of the Society of London Theatre, said: 'We are delighted to announce that three-time Olivier Award nominee and Primetime Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham is co-hosting the 2023 Olivier Awards Mastercard is. The Olivier Awards is the highlight of the theater calendar - a time for the industry to come together with fans to celebrate exceptional talent both on our stages and behind the scenes. Already in the first months of our activity it is clear that we have joined a uniquely innovative, diverse and resilient industry. To be able to recognize these qualities on stage at the Royal Albert Hall will be a real thrill.”
The former 'Game of Thrones' actress succeeds West End star and comedian Jason Manford, who has been the presenter for the past five years. She herself seemed delighted as well, taking to social media following the announcement. She wrote on Instagram, 'If only I could go back and whisper this news in my 20 year old self's ear...'
