Harry Styles (28) and the band Wet Leg lead this year's Brit Awards list with four nominations each. The former One Direction star was nominated for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop/R&B Act and Artist of the Year.
The indie pop band Wet Leg has just as many chances of winning a prize as the pop star - which is also nominated for the first time ever: the categories 'Album of the Year', 'Group of the Year', 'Best New Act' and ' Best Rock/Alternative Act' lists the band's name.
Other Brit Awards nominees include George Ezra (29), Ed Sheeran (31) and Elton John (75) für „Song of the Year“, The 1975 für „Group of the Year“ und „Best Rock/Alternative Act“, Calvin Harris (38) for 'Best Dance Act', Stormzy (29) for 'Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act' and Dua Lipa (27) and Sam Smith (30) als „Best Pop/R&B Act“.
In the international categories occur among others Beyoncé (41), Kendrick Lamar (35), Lizzo (34) and Taylor Swift (33) against each other. A German also made it into the Brits this year: Peter Kim (30) is nominated for best song for her single 'Unholy' with Sam Smith.
The nomination list drew a lot of criticism on social media. Since last year, the Brit Awards no longer separate their categories by gender - actually to be 'more inclusive'. Nevertheless, the main category 'Artist of the Year' exists this year Central Cee (24), Stormzy , Fred Again (29), George Ezra and Harry Styles are now all men. Female-led acts make up just 33% of this year's list of nominees, according to The Guardian.
The Brit Awards are Britain's premier music awards and are presented on February 11th.
