The 40-year-old royal held an audience with Olena Zelenska - wife of the war-torn country's Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy - at the palace reception on Sunday. The First Lady is also expected to represent her country at Queen Elizabeth's funeral on Monday (September 19).
Olena was photographed with other members of the Ukrainian contingent just before 4.45pm as she arrived in the English capital from Ukraine - which has been suffering from an ongoing attack by neighboring country Russia since February 2022 - sitting with the princess on matching gingham chairs. Both wore black to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth. As Olena sat with Catherine - who is married to William, Prince of Wales, and has Princes George, 9, and Louis, 4, and Princess Charlotte, seven, - she was spotted wearing a rushnyk, a piece of fabric embroidered with traditional Ukrainian embroidered with symbols in an apparent attempt to show her solidarity with her homeland.
Just hours before the meeting, Olena was seen entering Westminster Hall - where the late monarch currently resides in state - to pay her respects to the Queen, who died on September 8 aged 96. Queen Elizabeth's state funeral is expected to be attended by 500 world leaders. US President Joe Biden and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (66) with his wife Elke Büdenbender (60) and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen (63) are also expected.
