It's a day of mourning, the whole world looks to London, where Queen Elizabeth II. († 96) is buried. Kate, Princess of Wales , and their children George (9) and Charlotte bid farewell to their beloved grandmother-in-law and great-grandmother before the eyes of billions of people in front of the TV screens. As the wife of Prince William, the mother of three has long been a professional when it comes to public affairs, leaving no detail to chance on official occasions. So also on the day of the funeral: as in previous performances Kate wears jewelry that belonged to the late Queen – a very special kind of homage.
The necklace Kate is wearing comes from the Queen's personal jewelery box and consists of four rows of pearls with a central diamond clasp in a curved shape. There are three rows of diamonds on each side, merging with marquise diamonds at the top and bottom. The princess's earrings are also iconic: the earrings consist of round baguette-cut diamonds and pearls at the top. The Queen first lent the jewelery to Kat on the occasion of her 70th wedding anniversary in 2017, most recently the wife of Prince William (40) this jewelry combination for the funeral of Prince Philip (1921-2021) in April 2021.
Kate and the Queen had a close relationship, with the Princess said to have impressed the Queen with her down-to-earthness. After the failed marriage of Charles and Diana The Queen gave the couple enough time to find each other.
