On the third day of the trial for ex-MDR entertainment boss Udo Foht, the 71-year-old ex-manager made an extensive confession.

Foht is considered a sponsor of Florian Silbereisen and Helene Fischer

Foht, who is considered a sponsor of hit stars like Helene Fischer and Florian Silbereisen, has probably borrowed around 250 thousand euros from various companies in the entertainment and music industry. The problem: In many cases, he paid back the borrowed money too late or never at all. Initially, he was also accused of tax evasion and breach of trust.

Florian Silbereisen's sponsor: the public prosecutor's office proposed a comparison

Right at the start of the process last week the prosecutor proposed a settlement. What that means? Should Foht make a credible confession, the allegations of tax evasion and embezzlement will be dropped. In addition, the prison sentence would be limited to a period of between 12 and 21 months, on probation.

After the 71-year-old, who was visibly in poor health, entered the courtroom in the Leipzig district court on Friday, he had his lawyer read the confession. He admitted to having borrowed five-digit amounts from companies in several cases, often under the false pretense that the MDR would pay for the costs. Among the injured: Schlager star and moderator Florian Silbereisen. And Michael Jürgens, Silbereisen's manager. According to the confession, TV man Foht mostly assumed that he would be able to repay the loan later. The aim was often to finance new entertainment formats. At some point, however, he also had to plug other holes that were torn open by his financing system. His view of things today? 'I don't understand myself anymore. I was obsessed with my work,” Foht said in his confession.

It will be announced on Monday how the process will continue. The court may summon additional witnesses to verify Foht's confession. Silbereisen's manager could also be one of them.

It is very likely that a verdict will be reached before March 2023, when the trial was initially planned to end.
